There is No Time to Enjoy the Sun is the title of an exhibition organized in the context of Progetto XXI, in collaboration with Fondazione Morra Greco and curated by Federico Del Vecchio. The exhibition will present a group show of local artists from the generation of 1980s and 1990s. It constitutes the first stage of a wider project entitled “Sistema Campania per l’arte contemporanea” (Campania System for Contemporary Art), which aims to give space to the voices of contemporary art in the Campania region.

Based on the idea that in Naples it is possible to lose oneself in a labyrinth and open up new paths for the eye, the exhibition is almost like a cinematographic assemblage due to the unexpected visual differences. It brings into play the ways of expression and the visions of about twenty artists, who have accepted the invitation to reflect together on the place they live during the emergency period that has affected the entire community for more than a year, in particular the sphere of culture and art.

“In the beginning is energy” is the concept that drives the exhibition’s narrative, based on George Bataille’s theory which argues that the sun radiates from the cosmos more energy onto the Earth than it can actually absorb, producing an excess that translates, on the one hand, into the effervescence of life and, on the other, into destruction, if this excess is not limited (Georges Bataille, La parte maledetta preceduto da La nozione di dépense, Bollati Boringhieri, Torino, 2015). Such a cosmic energy is the focus of art, becoming a sort of catalyst for visions to read the present and build the future.

Naples, a city that moves from the bottom, from the deepest darkness to open up completely to the sun, represents the ideal place to give birth to and bring to explosion of that archaic energy force that comes from the Earth, to create spaces of cosmic significance beyond the everyday confines.
