Presentation of the book “Hidden in Plain Sight” by Fiamma Montezemolo

03.06.2025 \\

The collaboration between Fondazione Morra Greco and the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples deepens further: within the EDI Global Forum project and Fondazione’s public program, the two institutions are gearing up to present a new series of meeting titled “Arts, Anthropology and Cultural Heritage: for a Critical and Transformative Look.”

The first in this new series of talks, kickstarted in January 2025, is entrusted to the presentation of Fiamma Montezemolo’s book, Hidden in Plain Sight (Nero Editions 2024). Here, moving between Italy, Mexico and the United States, the artist and anthropologist retraces key moments in her research in order to enhance intersubjective and collaborative practices that cross geopolitical, metaphorical and disciplinary boundaries.

Presented in dialogue with Giulia Grechi, professor of Cultural Anthropology and Anthropology of Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, the book takes a cue from Borges’ short story “The Ethnographer,” revisits the crossings made by the artist through a selection of her most significant writings, on art and anthropology, and her artistic production.

Realized with the support of the General Directorate for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities as part of the Italian Council program (11th edition, 2022), curated by Martina Angelotti and produced by ON, Hidden in Plain Sight will be presented together with the screening of Tra un tremore e un altro (video, full HD, 16. 43, 2023). The video, built around the photographic archive of the artist’s father and his travels between the 1960s and 1980s is an opportunity to explore how creative calling can manifest itself with perseverance, even in the face of the inevitability of a neurological disease.

Participation is free upon registration on the Eventbrite platform.

For the students of the Academy of Fine Arts it should be noted that this event is part of the calendar of activities curated by Professor Grechi and valid for the recognition of training credits (ECTs). The participation to three presentations – please refer to the calendar – will qualify for the recognition of one ECT. Signatures of attendees will be collected at the event.

The project is co-financed with funds derived from Piano Strategico Cultura e Turismo 2024/2025 – Progetto Global Forum Mostre d’arte contemporanea EDI 2025.
