Fondazione Morra Greco hosts The Life and Death of a Candle, a multisensory workshop that weaves together charcoal drawing, improvised movement, poetry and sound experimentation.

The workshop is conceived by the art collective life is beautiful with AKHET, an independent curatorial and publishing platform devoted to contemporary culture, emerging languages, technological innovation and new generations.

A workshop on light, shadow and inner flames

The workshop takes the life and death of a candle as both metaphor and starting point. Participants are guided to explore the relationships between light and shadow, and between “outer and inner flames”, through several languages at once:

  • Movement and dance with Bianca Scout, artist and composer with a background in contemporary and classical dance, who guides the bodily experience.
  • Charcoal drawing and poetry with Amber Joy (THE NARRATOR), poet and storyteller, who shapes the visual and lyrical dimension.
  • Sound and improvisation with aloisius, founder of life is beautiful, and Jasper Maurice, who create an intuitive sound score using physical objects, instruments and voice.

From slow watching to cultural mediation

The workshop is part of the Foundation’s Education Department’s research into multisensory practice. It builds on ideas that emerged during the third in-person meeting of EDI Global Forum (March 2026), dedicated to slow watching: a practice that moves beyond the primacy of sight and brings the body and the time of observation back to the centre.

With The Life and Death of a Candle, cultural mediation becomes a listening experience that engages body, sound and image.

What is Road to EDI

Road to EDI is a programme of educational activities, training sessions and workshops born from the collaboration between artists, educators and cultural practitioners. Its aim is to foster dialogue between the pedagogical research of EDI Global Forum, a project on art education and mediation in museums, and the local community.
