COMBINE LANGUAGES
On the occasion of the Maggio dei Monumenti 2023, an event promoted by the City of Naples, the Fondazione Morra Greco is proposing the workshop project COMBINE LANGUAGES. An alphabet to communicate the incommunicable, which draws inspiration from the ecological and inclusive perspective of Jimmie Durham’s art practice and the Fondazione Morra Greco Jimmie Durham exhibition And now, so far in the future That no one will recognize Any of my jokes,. to propose a creative activity on the alphabet.
In a 2014 interview, Cherokee-born artist Jimmie Durham told that his favorite animal in Europe was the robin, a symbol of life and endurance, and in a work he made with Maria Thereza Alves, I rondoni di Porta Capuana, he recorded the song of the migratory birds that are periodically found on the arch of the ancient gateway to Naples, to emphasize its position as a crossroads. Jimmie Durham often made use of animal imagery to explore the social and cultural dynamics of human beings in order to reverse and deconstruct them. Participants will be invited to create new visual and sound codes in order to bring humans into dialogue with animals, particularly birds, whose adaptive capacity is increasingly threatened by the climate crisis.
