Beyond Images

EDI Global Forum 2026 focuses on one of the defining challenges of our time: fostering sensibility and critical thinking in the digital age.

We are immersed in a constant flow of digital images that have reshaped our attention spans, making it increasingly difficult to do things like pause in front of a work of art.

The era we live in calls for decisive action, and museums can no longer limit themselves to preserving and displaying: they must help audiences read images critically, understanding their origins and messages.

In this context, EDI 2026 introduces and promotes the concept of slow watching – a practice of slow, mindful looking – as a response to the phenomenon of visual immediacy. A challenge directed not only at museums, but at artists, content creators, technology platforms, and anyone who plays a role in shaping collective perception.

The programme explores three main thematic areas:

Visual Literacy and Critical Thinking – In an era dominated by endless scrolling, how do we teach people to truly look? Panels and workshops explore practical tools for educating critical image interpretation, drawing from neuroscience to the most innovative museum practices.

Artificial Intelligence, Art and Ethics – AI technologies are transforming the production, preservation and market of art. EDI 2026 addresses the opportunities and responsibilities of this transformation, bringing together researchers, authentication experts and representatives from ICOM.

The Gentle Museum – How can the museum become a genuinely inclusive space? This session centres the experiences of people with disabilities, older adults and neurodivergent individuals to build universal educational models capable of turning vulnerability and difference into resources.

Origins and Vision of EDI Global Forum

In response to the profound shifts in educational needs, Fondazione Morra Greco launched EDI (Education Integration) in 2022, establishing an annual programme of Agora Talks and an annual event, the EDI Global Forum.

EDI Global Forum is a permanent transnational platform dedicated to research and innovation in museum education. The EDI network does not simply discuss practices developed by museums and cultural institutions: it analyses their concrete impact on territories and communities, fostering an exchange of expertise and visions that continues to evolve well beyond the three days of the event.

The project is guided by the Tavolo delle Idee, an international scientific committee that includes representatives from institutions such as MoMA, the Louvre, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Stedelijk Museum and the Raw Material Company in Dakar.

EDI was born within Fondazione Morra Greco, which shares its mission: making education a strategic axis and a permanent space for research and experimentation.

Strategic Direction and Team

To support the growth of the programme and coordinate the initiatives of EDI Global Forum 2025, Fondazione Morra Greco has appointed Sylvain Bellenger as General Director and Christian Larsen as Executive Director. Their collaboration brings together two complementary perspectives: extensive experience in museum management and a curatorial research practice rooted in contemporary cultural transformations, strengthening EDI’s international impact.

Sylvain Bellenger is a leading figure in museum administration and education. His directorship of the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte established a European model of institutional innovation. His career as a curator in France and the United States – including roles at the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago – demonstrates deep expertise in the dialogue between collections, audiences, and territories.

Christian Larsen, cultural historian and curator, brings to EDI experience gained at institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, Fondazione Cini / Le Stanze del Vetro, and the Wolfsonian-FIU. Having earned his graduate degrees at the Bard Graduate Center in New York, where he also taught, he has curated exhibitions and publications ranging from Ettore Sottsass to Herzog & de Meuron, from Jean Prouvé to the avant-gardes of digital and robotic design, and the history of plant migration.

The EDI Table of Ideas

The Table of Ideas is an international forum for reflection and action designed to bring ethical, scientific, and philanthropic perspectives into dialogue and generate new insights into contemporary education.

It brings together figures from complementary fields: cultural and philanthropic foundations, intellectuals, artists, and architects, alongside scientists, sociologists, philosophers, neurologists, and information engineers. Its aim is not only to foster discussion, but to refine EDI’s vision, define effective strategies, and identify the resources needed to transform ideas into concrete action.

Through continuous exchange, the Table of Ideas contributes to building an international network focused on innovating education and making it more inclusive, sensitive, and conscious.

Programme and Highlights

The third edition of EDI Global Forum unfolds over three days of events hosted across Naples’ cultural institutions and creative spaces, including:

Keynote by Glenn Lowry, Director Emeritus, MoMA, on the shift in the mandate for museums over the course of his 30-year tenure at MoMA.

Interdisciplinary panels on visual attention and discernment, including Giorgio Abeltino, Google Arts & Culture, and Dr. Maurizio Corbetta, Chair of Neurology, University of Padua.

Artificial intelligence, art, and ethics.

Activism, influencers, and social media as forms of popular education.

The Gentle Museum: universal insights from the differently abled, aged and neurodiverse.

EDI Agora Talks, Workshops, and Learning Forum

EDI operates year-round as a catalyst for research and professional training, creating connections with universities, local authorities, and associations. Its commitment is focused on promoting educational equity, inclusive learning, and cognitive diversity.

Among its initiatives are the EDI Agora Talks: monthly public meetings, both in-person and virtual, exploring urgent questions at the intersection of culture, ethics, and science. Coordinated by the Table of Ideas, these dialogues feed into the vision and content that converge in the main event: the three days of the EDI Global Forum in Naples.
